Tenant Organizer. “I have been a Tenant Organizer, an immigrant rights advocate, and a worker’s rights advocate for over 12 years. I am a board member for Jobs with Justice and the SF Labor Council.”
Retired Assembly Member. “We need a Democratic Party that will fight for an affordable San Francisco.”
Member, Board of Supervisors. “I have more than a decade of involvement in San Francisco Democratic politics and I’m proud of my record as a member of the DCCC and the Board of Supervisors, where I have fought to make SF affordable for middle class and low income individuals.”
Incumbent. “I am an attorney and was a SF Public Defender for 10 years. I currently represent blue collar and union workers, i.e., shipyard workers, welders, electricians, mechanics and various construction trades that are dying from exposure to asbestos. I have been on the Police Commission for seven years and voted to keep tasers out of SF. I have been on the DCCC since 2012.”
Incumbent. “2016 marks 40 years of public service beginning when I went to Capitol Hill to work for Representative Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman in Congress and 1972 Presidential candidate through Cal-in-the-Capitol. I served as District 8 Supervisor from 2002-2011 and am proud to have been the 8th vote on critical measures, including Healthy San Francisco, Formula Retail legislation, due process for undocumented youth, banning formula retail in Hayes Valley and mandatory SFPD Foot Patrol, among others. As Director of HOPE, I am proud of working with homeless clients, the Coalition on Homelessness and other service providers to make changes, such as the SF Navigation Center, establishing a homeless preference for SF Public Housing, enabling individuals to make 90-day shelter reservations through #311 instead of requiring the everyone wait in long lines, and being part of the leadership that has housed over 800 Veterans over the past 5 years.”

My successes with those organizations include stopping unbridled development of our historic waterfront and saving our historic Flower Mart. Over the course of my career in public office, I have increased protections for tenants facing eviction and protested against the unlawful conversion of rent controlled housing, which has exacerbated our City’s housing crisis. I’ve led on numerous environmental initiatives, both in and out of office, including passing legislation to protect our playgrounds from toxic materials, preventing the infill of the San Francisco Bay by San Francisco International Airport, and joining lawsuits to reduce air emissions and limit corporate advertisements in public space. I have long advocated for historic preservation, helping to preserve the Colombo Building and, more recently, an historic Frank Lloyd Wright building on San Francisco’s Maiden Lane. I routinely join in solidarity as labor unions demonstrate against unfair contract terms, most recently joining the Teamsters in their demands for labor harmony in private commuter shuttle bus contracts. I’ve been grateful for the support of progressive labor over the course of my career.”

Director of Nonprofit Agency. “As a student I was one of the leaders of the historic student strike at SF State that led to the establishment of Ethnic Studies and increased enrollment of minority students. I worked with leaders in the Western Addition to file suit against HUD over relocation rights. We won the case that went to the Supreme Court, and established citizen participation in the redevelopment process, the first in the nation. During the past four years I have worked to assist veterans gain employment, currently heading the veterans assistance committee of the local NAACP.”
Nonprofit Housing Director. “I have been working on social justice, affordable housing and tenants’ rights issues in San Francisco for the last 13 years. As Deputy Director at Chinatown Community Development Center, I have built skills in negotiation, project management, and critical problem solving. I have used these skills to serve for the last four years on the SF Planning Commission, serving as both President and Vice President. My work focuses on participatory planning for low-income neighborhoods to have self determination over the improvements they seek for their neighborhoods.”
