— The June Primary election: Control of DCCC

DCCC is the important election in the June 7 Primary, where San Francisco Democrats vote on the composition of the city’s Democratic party (DCCC — Democratic County Central Committee). Currently there is a Moderate majority there closely linked to the real estate lobby. The DCCC influences voters and endorses candidates in the Nov 8 election so it’s important that DCCC control returns to progressives. Be sure to vote June 7 for DCCC candidates on the Progressive slates.

(To complicate matters DCCC is considering a bylaws change to add members, during an election. More at “Upcoming events” below.)

— The November General Election: Control of the Board of Supervisors

Equally important is the composition of the Board of Supervisors. Currently this body has a 6–5 majority of Progressives but three of these will term out in January. To keep the important progressive majority in the BoS we need to support three candidates who are running for the open seats in the Nov 8 election: Sandra Fewer (District 1), Hillary Ronen (District 9), and Kim Alvarenga (District 11). Two progressive incumbents are also on the ballot: Aaron Peskin (District 3) and Norman Yee (District 7). Progressive housing advocate Dean Preston (District 5) is running against incumbent London Breed. Even if you don’t vote in these districts consider supporting their campaigns.

This Saturday there are kick-off events for three progressive supervisor candidates — see “Upcoming events” below. Attend one or more of these to see first-hand the amazingly strong progressive field running for District Supervisors.
